At camp, campers are divided into sections by their age. For special camp events, the sections are asked to wear their section colours (hats, shirts, pants.... anything big or small will do!)
Below you will find a list of the camp sections/ ages and colours.
If you have the colours below, please be sure to pack in your campers luggage!
If you do not have- not the end of the world 🙂 Just fun to pack if you have it.
The ages below are the age your camper will turn in the calendar year- so if your camper turns 12 after camp, they are still considered 12. These sections are subject to some adjustments depending on enrollment
Below you will also find more information about your campers Canoe Trip. Canoe trip is an essential part of camp life. All campers will go on a canoe trip with their cabin group and counsellor. The trip lengths pasted below are the standard “ Park Trips”. These means they are included in your summer camp fees, and your camper will travel around Algonquin Park and spend a few nights in a tent.
For campers registered for any of our month-long sessions, starting at the age of 12 have the option of signing up for a “Special Trip”. Special trips are longer in length, and explore different areas not reachable from our Canoe Lake dock. Each special trip is associated with Special trip fees, as all of these trips include bus transportation to various places around Ontario and Quebec. If no trip is selected, your camper will go on an Algonquin Park trip with their cabin.
More details available on our Canoe Trip Page.
For campers registered for any of our 2 week sessions there are no Special Trip options available, however all campers will go on a Park Trip ( in Algonquin Park).
Please note your campers cabin group is also their trip group, so your camper will only be in a cabin with campers registered for the same Canoe Trip.
For Campers hoping to one day go on a 50day or Bisco( 42 day) or Quetico(36 day) or Kipawa Trip (22 day)- you will need to work backwards from their age 16 summer to ensure they complete the proper pre-requisites for these trips.
To prepare for a 50 day Canoe Trip takes a few summers of Special Trips to be ready for this big adventure! For more information, please go to our Special Canoe Trip Policy.
TSC accepts campers between the ages of 6 & 16; not all session lengths are available to all campers. The Taylor Statten Camps makes every effort to place campers in cabin/canoe trip groupings with the friends they request. Annual progression through our camper sections is based on a complicated formula, at the full discretion of our Camp Directors, consisting of age of the camper, the age of other enrolled campers and overall enrollment, session length, and previous camp experience.
If you are unsure about the best session length for the age of your camper please contact the Business Office. There is no guarantee of a cabin placement, specified cabin mates, specified staff members, or placement in a particular camper section, regardless of any request you may make
Cabin Life
Cabins at TSC are made of 4-7 campers. Campers in a cabin are all the same age, and registered for the same length of time. Sometimes, campers within 1 year of each other ( but born in different calendar years) can be grouped together, however we do try and keep all campers in a cabin to be born in the same year. Each cabin has 1 or 2 counselors assigned to the cabin.
The counselor is with the campers for all activity periods and will take them on Canoe Trip. Each cabin is part of a section. Each section can have between 5 and 10 cabins, and each section has a Section Director (SD) who supervises all the cabins and counsellors in the section.
Our cabins reflect our back to basics approach to summer camp. No power, no plumbing. Each cabin group has 1 counselor who is with them for the duration of their stay. While the counselors do not live in the cabin with the campers, they live very close by. Sections do evening programs together, as well as daily Swimming and Canoeing Lessons. If your camper is a 2 weeker, and their friend is registered for the full month – they can still spend time together in the section at swim/ canoe, rest hour, free time and at evening programs.
Some activities (such as horse riding) will be one cabin at a time to ensure proper supervision and enough equipment- however some activities ( like field sports) will be multiple cabins at a time- soccer is way more fun with more campers! Section groups will allow your camper to befriend other campers their age, and is a time to spend time with campers who may be registered for different Canoe Trips/ different session lengths.
