Junior Counsellor Program

This program is available to anyone born in 2007

(turning 17 in 2024)

We know that for many of you, starting to ‘work’ at camp can be somewhat stressful and intimidating. Our intention is to provide a comfortable, balanced transition from being a camper to being a TSC staff member. This enhanced outdoor leadership program will set you up for success for your camp career and in your future scholastic and professional life. We have taken feedback from previous CITs and are bringing forward this slightly revised approach. CITS will now be known as Junior Counsellors to reflect the changes to the position.

Here at TSC we have always felt that this ‘in-training’ position deserves some compensation. At many other camps you have to PAY for this transition year but at TSC we PAY YOU. (and in fact for 2023 we have TRIPLED the amount of compensation that Junior Counsellors will receive).  A Junior Counsellor summer at TSC results in thousands of dollars of savings to you and your family but still provides an incredible outdoor experience and some serious skill training. We also provide accommodation, board and laundry all free of charge.

For many former TSC staff, their year at TSC at age 17 created lifelong friendships that went on to serve as important parts of their professional and personal lives. Camp connections are often forever connections.

UPDATE:  TSC had intended to offer the PLF4M High School Physical Education Credit this coming summer. Unfortunately, the government office that accredits the programs of external school courses currently unable to provide suitable visibility to TSC on the fees and costs associated with their inspections that are required for starting up new programs. With the absence of the details from them on these fees, TSC has no choice but to delay offering this credit until the summer of 2025 at the earliest. We will however be ‘beta-testing’ this course this summer and it will form a part of the foundation of your days at camp. Nothing else about a Summer with us as a JC is changing. We are as excited as always about the summer and look forward to welcoming all our JC’s to Canoe Lake.

Some other  highlights of the revised JC position include:

“What makes TSC special to me is its history and community. I grew up going to several different camps as a camper, and working at many different camps as well. The summer of 2022 I was honestly nervous to be going to yet another new camp, but right away I was embraced by my fellow staff, and was able to become a part of a camp family stronger than any of the camps I have been to before. Almost everyone there truly loves the camps and are like family to each other, both during the summer and throughout the year, in a way I haven’t seen before. All of the staff support and learn from each other. I loved working with passionate staff and curious campers, and feeling like I was contributing to part of something bigger, while still passing on life changing experiences to campers. TSC has such a strong history and community, and I think a lot of that community comes from the longer expeditions. One of the things I loved most about September camp was meeting camp alumni and hearing about their experiences with the camp through the decades, and I am excited to be a part of carrying the spirit of TSC onwards into future years.”
