Testimonials

The Taylor Statten Camps has welcomed thousands of campers over the years. With almost 100 years of history, Canoe Lake continues to echo with TSC camp spirit. Each summer new and returning campers join us to continue on the traditions that have grown over time. Through the years alumni campers and families from Camp Ahmek and Wapomeo have come to hold their summer camp memories close. Whether this is by attending family camp, sending their children to TSC or reminiscing with friends, we are happy that Canoe Lake summers continue to resonate among campers of all ages.

We are lucky to call Canoe Lake home but more so to have all the incredible campers, staff and families who join us each year. Below you will find testimonials from campers, staff and alumni who have attended Camp Wapomeo or Camp Ahmek.

Testimonials

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada

The Taylor Statten Camps had an immeasurable impact on my family and me. For my father, my brothers and I, being campers and counsellors at Ahmek taught us much about nature; about responsibility; and most importantly, about ourselves.

Aidan (Ahmek Camp Counsellor & Previous Camper)

Camp is my happy place, somewhere I can relax, and have fun with some of my best friends in the world. It also has helped shape me as a person, teaching me life lessons I use every day.

Alexa (Wapomeo Camper – Age 11)

In my opinion camp is my second home. It’s where I make new friends and get to see my old camp friends again. When summer break starts it’s my favourite time of the year because I get to go to camp. This year will be my seventh year at camp and it will definitely not be my last!

Darcey (Wapomeo Camper – Age 8)

I love camp because you get to spend time with your friends and make new friends. Camps is awesome because there are a lot of activities and the counsellors are really nice. I like going to camp because it’s a really nice place and it’s fun to get outdoors and there are fun activities.

Parents (Ahmek & Wapomeo Campers)

Our three children can’t wait to get back to Ahmek and Wapomeo next summer. Each year they seem to come back from camp full of greater self-confidence and independence. We attribute their love for the camps to the fantastic staff who have always treated our kids like family. We are so fortunate to have had such a great experience so far and we look forward to more in the years ahead.

Nick (Ahmek Camp Counsellor & Previous Camper)

Summer camp is unique in its ability to build character and confidence. Growing up nothing changed me as much as camp did. Canoe trips taught me more about relationships and leadership than any of the sports I played. Now that I am a counsellor my biggest joy is watching and helping kids develop confidence and make lifelong friends over the course of the summer.

Jess (Camp Wapomeo Alumni – Age 27)

Every time I return to Canoe Lake, I am reminded of how special it was to spend my summers as a youth with the Taylor Statten Camps. Camp let me just be myself, it relieved the stresses of everyday life and let us all just be kids in the most naturally rewarding environment there is; the outdoors. There was an immeasurable amount of incredible experiences I enjoyed during my summers spent with TSC. One particular thing that I am grateful for is canoe trip. Canoe trips at TSC are a huge part of being a camper on Canoe Lake. Canoe trip gave me the chance to believe in myself, be myself, be a teammate, be a leader, be a teacher, be a learner and most importantly, to be a friend. The friendships I created while spending my summers at the Taylor Statten Camps are ones that continue to be a big part of my life.
