9 thoughts every camper has on the first day of camp

Whether you are attending camp for the first time or have been gracing the shores of Canoe Lake for several years, the first day of camp can always be a bit intimidating. You have yet to meet you cabin mates, counsellors and section directors. You are separating from the comforts of home like your room, your technology and your family. While this can be a bit scary, you’ll quickly learn that Camp Wapomeo and Camp Ahmek will become your second home. Those who have been going to camp years can attest to this fact and that eventually going from your house to your camp cabin, will become a simple act of home-hopping.

It is very important to remember that everyone (staff too!) are nervous on their first day of camp. We’ve come up with a list of a few common thoughts that campers (new and returning!) may have on their first day…

9. Did I remember to pack everything?

8. Is the lake going to be cold?

7. I wonder who will be in my cabin…

6. I wonder who my counsellor will be…

5. I hope the first dinner is something tasty.

4. I miss my family. Yes, even my siblings.

3. I am nervous.

2. I am excited.

1. I AM READY!

If you are thinking about camp for summer 2018, especially if this would be your first camp experience, remember that feeling nervous is absolutely 100% normal! Humans are creatures of habit and as such, there is nothing quite as rewarding as stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new.

Registration for summer 2018 opens on November 6th 2017. In the meantime, we encourage you to like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram to stay up to date with everything TSC!
